Big! Big! Big!

Big! Big! Big!

Why Thinking Big is the Only Way to Think in the Current Economy

When I was 17 years old, I bought Dr. David Schwartz’s book, The Magic of Thinking Big. Since that first time reading it, I have read the book several times and recently started reading the book again with my 18 year-old son. I can honestly say I credit this book, at least in part, with teaching me to develop the kind of thinking that has helped me earned (and keep) tens of millions of dollars.

The Magic of Thinking Big is the inspiration and the foundation of most of my thinking. I simply do not know how to think small. I do not accept failure in any form, nor do I accept defeat under any circumstance. Another book that powerfully impacted my way of thinking is The Science of Personal Achievement by Napoleon Hill. I memorized one of my favorite quotes when I was just 18 years old.

“There’s no environment so unfavorable, so discouraging, no situation disheartening that a man or woman who is made of the right kind of material cannot change it.”

Lincoln, Benjamin Franklin, Frederick Douglass, Dale Carnegie, Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King Jr., Colonel Sanders, Diana Nyad and thousands of other men and women found themselves in the most disheartening environments but made a new one for themselves.

“It is possible for you to do the same.  The great trouble with most of us is that we never get aroused, never discover ourselves until late in life-often too late to make much out of the remnant that is left.

It is very important that we become aroused to our possibilities when young, thus, we may overcome the most unfavorable environment and get the greatest possible efficiency out of our lives.”

Those words, and more importantly, that sentiment has stayed with me all my life. Each time I encounter a barrier in anything I do, the quote immediately comes to mind and I change my attitude immediately. When I change my attitude, I can change my circumstance.

I have added some modern day achievers to the list of names, so that you can all see that anything is possible if you dedicate yourself to achieving it and are willing to pay the price. Diana Nyad, swam from Cuba to Florida after several tries, but she never gave up.

So if your goal is to break the cycle of low wages, working an unsatisfying job or being unfulfilled in your relationship, the control is within your hands and you don’t need any special ability but the motivation to do what is necessary. Make thinking big a habit.

If you are employed and you are not making enough money, what are you doing to change your situation? How are you going to break out of the cycle of low wages? If you are going to make an omelet, you have to break some eggs. If you want change in your life, you must be willing to pay the price by breaking unproductive cycles that are keeping you from achieving what you want.

One thing is certain, until you decide to make the first move, or keep going if you already started, Nothing will happen. The future is bright for as long as you don’t quit.

So, keep thinking big. Let’s go get another deal, and I’ll see you at the top.
